What should I pay attention to when using a GPS antenna?

2024-09-10

GPS is a terminal that uses satellite signals for positioning or navigation, and receiving signals requires the use of an antenna, hence it is called a GPS antenna. GPS satellite signals are divided into L1 and L2, with frequencies of 1575.42 MHz and 1228 MHz, respectively; It is currently used in many fields, such as buses, aerospace, automation equipment, automotive electronics, and so on; So what should customers pay attention to when using GPS antennas?

1. GPS antenna cannot achieve 100% positioning: Unlike mobile radio, GPS antenna can receive signals anywhere, and many things can affect its reception, including the distribution of sky stars, buildings, overpasses, radio waves, leaves, insulation paper, etc. There are really too many things affected; Generally speaking, looking up from the GPS position, the area of the sky that can be seen is the area where the GPS antenna can receive signals.

2. Do not use it once or twice, or for a day or two, to determine the quality of the GPS antenna: because the satellite status is different every day, maybe in the same place, the morning reception will be full, but at night it cannot be located. These situations are possible, and it is also possible that the positioning condition will not be good for several days in a row, so do not rashly decide the quality of the GPS antenna

3. Comparing the quality of GPS antennas: To compare the quality of GPS antennas, it is necessary to compare them at the same time and in the same location. Many people who buy new ones may think that the one they used before was better, but this is not necessarily correct because the final results are much different depending on the time and place of use. It is necessary to use them for a long time or at the same time in the same location to feel the differences between the two GPS antennas.

4. The GPS signal strength meter is no longer sufficient as a reference for purchasing GPS antennas. When people buy, they only look at the signal meter in the electronic map. Previously, it may have been accurate, but now GPS antennas have fake signals or simulated signals to make the signal meter look good, resulting in inaccurate positioning or incorrect display.

5. When purchasing a GPS antenna, there is no need to choose the manufacturer, but you can choose the chip used internally: There are many manufacturers in the market that consider GPS antennas, and choosing a manufacturer only considers after-sales service. It is not necessarily the best for large manufacturers to receive signals. Generally speaking, GPS antennas with the same chip will not have significant differences in effect when made by different manufacturers. Therefore, when choosing a GPS antenna, you can choose based on the GPS receiving chip.
